Butler County Prison

Butler County Prison
  • Client: Travelers
  • Location: Butler County, Pennsylvania
  • Approximate Project Value: $40 million

Project

Butler County's new 170,000-square foot, six-story jail building has capacity for 514 inmates, with design expansion for 300 additional inmates.

This state-of-the-art building is situated on a landlocked site in downtown Butler, Penn., adjacent to the county courthouse and administration offices. The centralized location created logistical challenges during construction; however, being located next to the courthouse minimizes prisoner transportation costs over the life of the building. With features expected for a modern jail, the facility includes a medical unit, storage and exercise areas, and double-door "sally ports" to preserve security when police escort prisoners in or out of the facility.

SERVICES

When the project was approximately 40-percent complete, Travelers hired Buric to perform a due diligence review of the project construction and contract status. After the general contractor was removed from the project, Buric negotiated and ratified the second tier subcontracts, prepared and bid a re-let bid package for the general contractor work, and assisted in selecting and contracting with the completion general contractor. In addition, Buric analyzed and testified in the resolution of subcontractor, owner and principal claims.
