University of Cincinnati
The Vontz Center for Molecular Studies

Client: Owner
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Approximate Project Value: $46 Million

Project
Designed by Frank Gehry and BHDP Architecture, The Vontz
Center for Molecular Studies makes a powerful statement at the gateway to the University Of Cincinnati Medical Center. The four-story Vontz Center medical research facility has attracted worldwide attention; it features an architecturally intriguing cast-in-place concrete design, and stands as a 360-degree sculpture, set off by a beautiful green space of sculpted grassy mounds and terraces. A walkable area or interstitial space rests between each lab floor and contains the building’s electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. This interstitial space permits easy reconfiguration of labs for the changing needs of individual researchers at minimal cost and disruption of work.
